North Hills, California - Preschool among "First in Nation" to Complete More Rigorous Accreditation Process. The Accreditation Places The Quality Of This Preschool Program Among The Top 1% Of Child Care Centers In The Nation.
When the February 2007 issue of the Parent Magazine stated "The gold standard of approval (for pre-schools) is accreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children"-they were not kidding.
Founded in 1926, NAEYC is the world's largest organization working on behalf of young children (aged birth to 8 years) and is committed to using the newest best practices to ensure that young children receive the highest-quality care and education possible.
The NAEYC Accreditation system was created in 1985 to set professional standards for early childhood education, and to help families identify high-quality preschools, child care centers and other early education programs. Recently, the Association's revised program standards and criteria have introduced a new level of quality, accountability, and service for parents and children in child care programs. The new standards reflect the latest research and best practices in early childhood education and development, to ensure young children continue receiving the highest-quality care and education possible. Only about 8 percent of U.S. preschools are currently accredited.
To renew and earn the NAEYC Accreditation in the new system, Holy Martyrs A.R.S. Ashkhen Pilavjian Preschool went through an extensive self-study process, measuring the program and its services against the ten new NAEYC Early Childhood Program Standards and more than 400 related Accreditation Criteria. The program received NAEYC Accreditation after an on-site visit by NAEYC Assessors to ensure that the program meets each of the ten NAEYC program standards.
"We're not just proud because we earned the "golden seal of approval" from NAEYC, but we're proud for being rated with the highest marks of quality and to be recognized for our commitment to reaching the highest professional standards," said Ms. Vehik Gabrielian, Director of the Preschool.
"Our mission is to provide a unique learning experience for young children and to ensure that the program is based on current knowledge of child development and early childhood education"-Gabrielian added. "We implement developmentally appropriate learning experiences for young children as we build the foundation for lifelong learning as well as support families in their task of nurturing children".
In addition, the Preschool prides itself for transmitting the Armenian culture, values, and heritage, to young children in order to build self-identity, as well as help them see the beauty of cultural diversity.
"Part of the reason we have reached such a high level of compliance with NAEYC is because we have always incorporated their professional guidelines into our program, says Holy Martyrs A.R.S. Ashkhen Pilavjian Preschool Director. " Another reason is our wonderful staff. Every staff member is a fully trained, certified, and experienced professional, but more than that -- they are warm, loving, talented teachers who are truly gifted in their work and interactions with young children. We also enhance our programs with visiting professionals for enrichment in areas such as music, fine arts, health & hygiene, and literacy.
Ms. Gabrielian also attributes this success for the hard work and devotion of the Pre-School Parent Teacher Committee volunteers and the governing School Board which help bridge the school, the home, and the community together.
The "NAEYC ACCREDITATION DECISION REPORT", dated January 31, 2008 indicates the following scores for Holy Martyrs A.R.S. Ashkhen Pilavjian Preschool as Percentage of Met Criteria for each of the NAEYC's ten criteria by Program Standards:
Assessment of Child Progress 100+%
Community Relationships 100+%
Physical Environment 96%
Leadership and Management 100+%
NAEYA's executive director Dr. Mark Ginsberg noted, "The new system raises the bar for preschools, child care centers, and other early childhood programs. For Holy Martyrs A.R.S. Ashkhen Pilavjian Preschool, accreditation is a sign that they are a leader in the national effort to invest in high-quality early childhood education, and to help give all children a better start."
In the year of 1991, with the sponsorship of the Armenian Relief Society of Western U.S.A. Regional Executive, Holy Martyrs A.R.S. Ashkhen Pilavjian Preschool was established. It is affiliated with Holy Martyrs Armenian Elementary and Ferrahian High School, which is the first Armenian school established in the United States in 1964. In 2006, with the generous donation of benefactor Mrs. Ashkhen Pilavjian, the Preschool was renamed to Holy Martyrs A.R.S Ashkhen Pilavjian Preschool. Holy Martyrs A.R.S. Ashkhen Pilavjian Preschool is licensed by the State of California to serve the needs of children ages 2 through 5 years. It is also accredited by National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) since 1999.
